Halloween Spooky Spiders

It’s the end of October and that means one thing: Halloween is here! In Australia, Halloween is just starting to become more popular so you can bet there’s going be lots of kids roaming the streets on the hunt for some scary treats. Here’s one you can make at home.

This recipe is perfect for kids and can be customised with flavours of your choice. It is super easy and only has two steps! Plus these spooky spiders are also super cute. Enjoy!

Ingredients

1 cup walnuts

5 large pitted dates

1 tbsp rice malt syrup

2 tbsp cacao powder

1 cup desiccated coconut

Pinch of salt

Flavour of choice (I used 2 tsp peppermint essence but you could also add 1 tbsp of peanut butter or dark chocolate chips)

1 cup organic shredded coconut (for the spider’s legs)

Method

  1. Process all ingredients except the shredded coconut until well combined. Roll a handful of mixture in an oval to make the spider body and repeat.
  2. Carefully place one piece of shredded coconut to the left of the spider body, then to the right. Repeat this until there are three (or four, up to you) coconut legs on each side of the spider body.  Break off two small chunks of shredded coconut and add to the front of the spider body as the fangs. Repeat this for each spider body and then place in the freezer. Enjoy!
